Frequently asked questions
Before you book
Still have questions? Call (978) 400-6701 or read the full FAQ.
How much does a tattoo cost at Dark Aura Tattoo?
It depends on size, placement, detail, and session time. Tattoos start at a $200 shop minimum, sessions under 4 hours are $110 per hour, and half-day ($500) and full-day ($800) packages are available. Every quote starts with a free consultation. See the pricing page for details.
Do you offer consultations?
Yes. Every tattoo starts with a free one-on-one consultation, in person or online, before any ink is applied.
What tattoo styles do you specialize in?
Black and grey, realism, cover-ups, fine line, and portraits. All work is 100% custom.
Can you cover up an old tattoo?
Yes. Cover-ups are one of our key specialties. Your existing tattoo is assessed during your consultation so we can plan the best design to hide it.
Can I bring my own design?
Yes. Bring references, sketches, or photos and T.J. will refine them into a custom piece built for your body.
Is a deposit required?
Yes. A non-refundable deposit secures your date and is applied to your total cost. Give at least 48 hours' notice to reschedule and your deposit transfers to your new appointment.
How far ahead should I book?
Schedule 2–4 weeks ahead for standard pieces. Sleeves and larger cover-ups may need more lead time.
How should I prepare for my tattoo?
Be well-rested, hydrated, and fed. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand, and wear clothing that gives easy access to the area.
How long does a tattoo take to heal?
Most tattoos heal on the surface in 2–4 weeks, with full healing taking up to 6 weeks. Follow the aftercare guide for the best result.
Is the studio private and sterile?
Yes. Dark Aura is a single-artist studio, so there are no other clients in the room. We use hospital-grade sterilization, single-use needles, and disinfect every surface between sessions.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash, credit, and debit cards.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes. Reach out through the contact page to purchase one.
